Michael Joseph Jackson (Gary, 29 de agosto de 1958 — Los Angeles, 25 de junho de 2009) foi um cantor, compositor, dançarino e produtor dos Estados Unidos.

Diferente de bandas que demoram anos para atingir o reconhecimento, o Creed, já em seu primeiro trabalho, intitulado “My Own Prison”, obteve um grande sucesso. O álbum vendeu 30.000 cópias em apenas uma semana, surpreendendo crítica e público.

A formação da banda também foi inusitada. Tudo aconteceu porque Scott Stapp (vocal), após um problema em uma faculdade no Tennessee, decidiu se mudar para Talahassee, Flórida (1995), terra de Jim Morrison – um de seus maiores ídolos.

Uma semana depois de ter chegado, Stapp se encontrou com Mark Tremonti (guitarra), um amigo de longa data, e os dois começaram a tocar juntos. A primeira sugestão para o terceiro integrante da banda seria um amigo de Scott, que foi descartado rapidamente. Porém, muito antes da falta de um baterista tornar-se um problema, Scott Phillips, que estava morando no lugar do ensaio, tocou com Tremonti uma música do Living Colour, e pronto… lá estava o terceiro integrante da banda.
